It was a clean sweep by BJ’s Backwoods BBQ of Weaverville, which took first place in all categories and was crowned grand champion of Tops Super Foods second annual Best of Trinity County BBQ Fundraiser on July 28.

A total of $1,500 was raised at the event. All proceeds are donated to the Trinity County Fire Chiefs Association, which represents all volunteer fire departments within Trinity County.

Most creative cook site went to the Douglas City Volunteer Fire Department.

Eight teams competed for the title of grand champion. Categories included whole chicken, tri-tip roast and pork ribs. In addition, Tops sold hamburger meals featuring Creekstone Farms USDA Choice black angus beef, Frito Lay chips and an ice cold Coca-Cola.

While customers enjoyed their meal, they were serenaded by Trinity County balladeer Don Hall, who was accompanied by David Crummy.
